Pity Candy

Hello Hudinions, (I considered Hudi-minions, but I think this is better) This past week has been quite weird. Firstly, I took my Digital Systems final (the second one, actually. If y'all remember from awhile back, I failed the first one.), which got me thinking--the most unusual thing to happen this week. What awesome jobs are out there that don't ask me to pass Digital Systems? And as a true Girl Scout, my motto is "Be prepared…to sell more cookies." And so, instead of doing the homework and studying that I should have been occupying myself with, I was thinking of some alternative possibilities. There was my brilliant idea of Professional Sanitation Engineer, the job that would entail overseeing the collection and beautificationness of any district of choice! (Side note: I love using fancy-shmancy words for very boring things. For example, calling a teacher a "Knowledge Navigator." Or a dishwasher a "Crocker Cleansing Operative." Or my personal fa...

Chanukah Matzos

The title of this post might be misleading to some. I'm sure that many have never heard of the inyan in Rambam's Moreh Nevuchim about eating matzos on Chanukah. If I remember correctly, it's somewhere in chapter 17.  Anywho, I titled my blog post after this inyan because this was supposed to be a Purim Post, but I guess now it's just a Post-Purim Post. Nu, we can't have everything in life.  So, craziness has ensued in my life this past week. First off, it was Purim. There were four of us who stayed in Yerushalayim for Purim, so we had a little party. We made hamentaschen, sang, spoke out some Purim Torah, made some yummy chicken, and just enjoyed the night of Purim.  I went around and asked my friends to answer some questions. Let's see what they said. Note, comments labeled HC are Hudi's Comments.  Q1: What would you do if there were 20 elephants in a room and one of them ate your date? MF: Call his mom (HC: That's one interesting conversation. Let me k...

Momly Men

Proceed with caution. Symptoms of reading this too much: loss of brain cells, migraines, headaches, groaning, rolling eyes, etc. The Dorky Daily by Judith Brat: The snow was falling quickly, sticking to hair and clothing but not the ground. Hudicus came down the steps, proudly wearing her hobo jacket.  "Um, Huds? Does that thing keep you warm?" The question came from Shloims, fully bundled up in two coats, a sweater, gloves, a hat, a scarf, fuzzy socks, snow boots, and with an umbrella in hand.  Hudicus would have normally quipped back with a witty reply, but she was tired that morning, so the retort was more like, "Um, Shloims, does your coat not keep you warm? I mean, does my coat keep me warm? I mean, do you wish your coat were a hobo jacket? I mean, hobo...coat...jacket...I mean...shnarkloobs..." And that just proves that Hudicus is lying when she says that she's a morning person. But she's also not a night person. Hmmm. Maybe she's just not a person...

Chopped Liver

Dear lovely peoples, I do know that this is late again. But only a few days this time, and not a week, so if all y'all would just put away your pitchforks and chainsaws, that would be greatly appreciated.  What a week it's been.  This week was Rosh Chodesh Adar. On Friday, I went to neitz at the Churva with Faeven. Every time I go, I'm wowed, awed, stunned by the beauty of it. This time was no different.  After I got back to the dorms, I decided to forgo sleeping and spent over two hours working on linear homework. It was so satisfying and fulfilling. I even liked linear at that point in my life.  Baruch Hashem, I have come to my senses and have now decided that linear is the dumbbest class ever, and its homework is such a meanie. My friend and I spent over two hours on some questions yesterday and got absolutely nowhere. So meeeeean. For Shabbos, I was in Qiryat Sefer with Shloims and her fam jam. And what a Shabbos it was. I guess I have to say nice things about it...

Library Lady

It's Tuesday again: my least favorite day this semester.  I got so many sleeps last night, and yet I'm still so tired. It must be my mono. I'm telling you, the mono is real, people. The mono is real. Last week seems like a lifetime ago, mainly because I don't remember much of what happened.  I am deeply sorry for not posting a blog post last week. I lost much sleep over the decision. If any of you are angry or upset or disappointed, I will first tell you to get a life, and quickly. I will also give the option for you, reader, to write a blog post one week. I think any of you lovely people would do a great job.  And now, for the segment you have all been waiting for...drum roll please..... Nerdy News: Reporter: "Hudi, what did you do today that is Nerdy Newsworthy?" Hudi: "Um, breathed." Reporter: "Yes, yes. We all know that you breathing is super nerdy. We want something else, something better." Hudi: "I got kicked out of the library l...

CKU

Once upon a time, there lived a Hoodie. It led a peaceful life. It lived in a small room across the hall from a very loud, annoying apartment. But it was happy and carefree, with not a care in the world save for one terrible situation: Cal-Kill-Us. For the point of this story, we will call it CKU.  CKU was the bane of this Hoodie's existence. Anytime it was happy for any reason, CKU came to ruin all that goodness. If Hoodie had had a great day, then CKU would suddenly appear to make that day not great again.  And Hoodie did not live happily ever after.  Wow. That fairy tale warmed my heart. We should add it to Grimm's.  So, if any of you did not understand the moral of the story, then I question your intelligence.  So, let's discuss CKU no further, for it makes me want to kill something...or someone. Like Isaac Newton. I wish that apple had hit him harder, sometimes. But not too hard, because that would be mean and spiteful.  So, school has begun again, and...

Dancing with Shloims

I took my last final. Probably nailed it. Or failed it. Difference of one letter. Take your pick.  So, it's been a week. Much has happened during these past days. I don't even remember all of it. Must be my early OPS showing up.  So, we left off last week with Sarah Leeeeeah coming to the Holy Land to see me. And what a trip it was. She actually stayed in my dorms. Shhh. Don't tell my aim bayit. I'm pretty sure it's illegal. It's a good thing she'll never read this. Otherwise, I might be homeless.  So, Wednesday was busy. I went shopping, went to work (my last day, actually), and studied. 'Twas a lovely day.  Thursday was spent studying, dancing with Shloims, learning, and crying about how much studying I need to do but don't want to do and where are all of my chocolate twizzlers and I think I know this except I don't think I do, and it was very unpleasant for everyone involved.  But, the saving grace was Shabbos. For I couldn't study on Shab...
