Chanukah Matzos

The title of this post might be misleading to some. I'm sure that many have never heard of the inyan in Rambam's Moreh Nevuchim about eating matzos on Chanukah. If I remember correctly, it's somewhere in chapter 17.

Anywho, I titled my blog post after this inyan because this was supposed to be a Purim Post, but I guess now it's just a Post-Purim Post. Nu, we can't have everything in life.

So, craziness has ensued in my life this past week. First off, it was Purim. There were four of us who stayed in Yerushalayim for Purim, so we had a little party. We made hamentaschen, sang, spoke out some Purim Torah, made some yummy chicken, and just enjoyed the night of Purim.

I went around and asked my friends to answer some questions. Let's see what they said. Note, comments labeled HC are Hudi's Comments.

Q1: What would you do if there were 20 elephants in a room and one of them ate your date?

MF: Call his mom (HC: That's one interesting conversation. Let me know how that goes.)

SF: Scream and run (HC: Very practical. Also unhelpful for him.)

AA: Freeze (HC: We love a person who knows how to take charge in a tense situation.)

AG: Eat the elephant (HC: Well, that's one way to take revenge.)

Q2: Begin this sentence: .......eating your friend. (HC: What can I say? I was hungry when I started asking them questions.)

MF: A great way to diet is... (HC: Pretty sure that's on the South Beach diet plan, actually.)

SF: It's always a bad day when you're... (HC: Yeah, probably right up there with the day that you got run over by a moving train.)

AA: A good way to lose a friend is by... (HC: Accurate.)

AG: I like... (Well, I know who's not my friend anymore.)

Q3: You know you're in Dira Chamesh when...

MF: Your mind is just on elephants (HC: I wonder why that is...)

SF: You walk into the kitchen and people are doing yoga (HC: It was only one time! Okay, fine, maybe two. Or three. Or four...)

AA: You hear screams from the first floor when you're on the fifth (HC: Um, excuse me. Our neighbors love us. Well, me, at least.)

AG: You could sing (HC: Hey. I'm here, too!)

Q4: If you were arrested for something, what would it be?

MF: They would never catch me (HC: That's only slightly terrifying.)

SF: Taking off other people's masks (HC: Did you ever hear of this little thing called personal space?)

AA: Jaywalking (HC: Wouldn't we all?)

AG: Robbing a bank (HC: Well, at least you would be able to pay bail.)

Q5: If you woke up one morning and were missing your nose, what would you do?

MF: Find it (HC: Practical as always.)

SF: Sneeze or get a Corona test (HC: Let me know how that goes for you.)

AA: Try to find it (HC: Did you talk to MF recently?)

AG: Clutch the area of my nose (HC: Well, it would be pretty flat there, wouldn't it?)

Q6: What is your go-to Dr. Seuss book?

MF: Sneetches (HC: Not gonna lie, don't even know that one.)

SF: Old people one (HC: Descriptive.)

AA: Green Eggs and Ham (HC: I'm sorry, aren't you in a Chareidi dorm?)

AG: I don't know Dr. Seuss (HC: And that was how I lost a good friend.)

Q7: If you found out you were my long-lost twin, what would you say?

MF: That makes so much sense (HC: I agree.)

SF: I would hide this info until my death day (HC: What else are you hiding?)

AA: Yeah, I have a sibling! (HC: That's one way to look at things.)

AG: You can't be. I already have a twin (HC: Valid. And seeing as I'm supposed to marry him, that might make things slightly awkward.)

Q8: If you were me for a day, what would you do?

MF: Delete all Marvelous Middos Machine from my computer (HC: Well, that's just cruel and unusual punishment.)

SF: Make a blog post denouncing my love for sharks (HC: Well, they denounce their love for you also! So there.)

AA: Hang out with Yitzy (HC: We love Yitzy-boo.)

AG: Buy Adina Cofix (HC: Also, probably say pizza as many times as humanly possible.)

So, that was fun. My friends are so entertaining.

So, Purim night passed with me only slightly tipsy (on candy and chocolate, people. Get your heads out of the gutter).

For the Purim seudah, I went to Neve Yaakov to family friends, the Seiberts. They hosted me for the meal and for Shabbos. Yes, they are saints, indeed.

The meal was highly entertaining and fun and spiritual and delicious. Enjoyed every moment. Shabbos was equally as nice. Really enjoyed reading some books to the kiddies, talking about shidduchim, hanging out with friends, and going to the park.

This post will now take a sharp turn from being light and fun to pretty serious and sad. Motzei Shabbos, we heard the news that Rav Chaim passed away. Obviously, it was shocking, sad, and scary.

I called my amazing cousins in Bnei Brak who offered to host two of my friends and me that night so we could go to the Levayah on Sunday. That Motzei Shabbos was insane. So much Hashgacha happened on the way to Bnei Brak that night. We got to Bnei Brak at 3:00 in the morning. The Levayah was Sunday morning.

We were outside with the women, watching these huge screens. It was a very emotionally draining day, but I'm so thankful that I was able to go and be there with a million other Jews mourning the passing of the Gadol Hador.

After the Levayah, we went back to my cousins to eat some food and pack up. We left at around 5:00, and we hit almost no traffic. It made no logical sense, but we got back to Yerushalayim by 6:30. It was insane.

And then, Monday was a regular day back at school. Unfortunately. So, now I have no free time at all. Oh well.

Last night, some Israeli girls came into our apartment, and we hung out for about an hour. We sang some songs and laughed a lot; I spoke some terrible Hebrew and just enjoyed meeting some new peoples.

And now, it's time to end. I hope you enjoyed my Post-Purim Post.

Toodles from Hoodles!
