Finite Infinities
Did you know that there are an infinite amount of infinities? Do you not feel like your life is more complete now that you know that very pertinent and relevant piece of information?
In one of our math classes (discreet math), we are learning about the secrets of cardinality and infinity and infinite infinites and finite infinites and all that good stuff that makes one's head spin and long for those days when infinity was something that just existed in a childlike view of the world and was just a very big number that didn't end and wasn't tried to be understood and dealt with.
It happens to be that it's all very cool, and during class, we're all jumping out of our seats in excitement every time we see a new proof or theorem. We are all nerds.
After that intro, let's go on to Shabbos. I was at the Shpiegel's! It had been too long since I'd been there, so I'm glad they hadn't forgotten me.
Faeven, Shana Aleph, and I had a grand time there at the Shpiegel Shack on Shabbos. Friday night, we went to shul, where the youth groups were having a shabbaton, so during Kabbalas Shabbos, they all were dancing and singing, and it was all very beautiful indeed.
After the meal that night, my famous friend Tzip came over and we all hugged and cried like we hadn't seen each other in years (yes, yes, we see each other every day in school and live together. Do you have a point?).
During the Shabbos day meal, Shana Aleph was trying to teach the male Shpiegels a specific tune, but she wasn't able to sing, obviously. Just imagine that scene. It was quite hilarious, to say the least.
The song of the Shabbos was "Im Lavan Garti", even though none of us knew the actual words. So after Shabbos, we looked them up and discovered that the words come from Sefard Hakafos? How could you not know that?
Motzei Shabbos was so many funs. We stole some ice cream for melava malka. Hey, it's a mitzvah! I also "fell" on the floor. Let me explain the quotes around that word. A so-called "friend" stole the chair right out under me, literally and figuratively and metaphorically and pragmatically. It was actually quite funny. I was only slightly dramatic as I dropped to the floor and lay down as I sobbed hysterically.
So, Shabbos was lovely, bH.
Now, here are some Strange Snippets:
A friend, speaking of someone else whose parents own an apartment in Yerushalayim: "Rich parents...what a move! Why didn't I do that?"
Another friend, who accosted me for no reason the minute I walked in the door, said this in a heated moment: "You've tortured me enough with your who-knows-what." Well, thank you. That clears up a lot. Now, I know exactly what I did.
I, in response to said friend's idea that I should go to a neshei event, very smartly replied, "But I'm not a nush."
What else happened this week? Oh, I got a wedding dress, which was very exciting. And I did not cry or scream or throw a tantrum.
Yesterday, we had a discreet math midterm. I could have passed, or I could have failed. Who knows?
But, yesterday was a great day. After school, I went to Azula, my newly married friend who now lives in Israel. We had a cute little Maalois reunion (no need to remind me that I wasn't actually in Maalois, okay). And Adina G. came into Israel to visit us for the Holiday of Lights, so it was great to see her. She came over to our dorms, and we hung out and jammed, and it was all so many funs.
And now, I must go. I know that this one wasn't so many funnies. I hope you can forgive me. So long, peeps!
Toodles from Hoodles!
