Gross Healthy Things

Wow, the week does fly by. Last week, I was sitting pretty and enjoying break from the dreaded school, eating some pretzel-sfinge and donuts and lighting candles, listening to the 20 different tunes for the same few words of Al Hanisim.  And this week, I'm sitting ugly and hating the lack of break from the dreaded school, eating vegetables and fruits and gross healthy things, listening to recordings of all the classes I missed and skipped.  The rest of Chanukah was lovely, bH. For Shabbos, I went to Benay Beraq to my wonderful cousins, and it was so nice. The kids liked me for once, and we read all of their English books multiple times, and I held the little baby for many hours.  The food was delicious, my Hebrew was less than perfect, and I learned many new words. Do I remember any of them? Not a single one. One day, I'll know Hebrew. One day... In other news, my friend NS got engaged! It's the bestest news ever. We're all very excited (pronounced exited, obviously) fo...

Sphinx

It rained yesterday. It's a good thing we have little homes for our menorahs, 'cause otherwise it would all be very awkward.  Indeed, the Holiday of Lights has been anything but awkward. It has been beautiful, inspiring, fun, fattening (okay, I only ate like five donuts...every day of Chanukah...hey, they're yummy...don't look at me with that tone of voice), and just all around awesome socks. We have class over zoom, so naturally I don't go to any of them. Because that would be way too responsible of me. And super nerdy, to boot.  Before Chanukah was upon us, there were the dreaded midterms, one on Wednesday, one on Thursday, and one on Friday. Who knows how I did? All I know is that I have gotten so good at making up things that sound intelligent but make no sense to anyone who knows the slightest thing about math or computers (or really to anyone who has any brain).  On Thursday night, I went to a wedding of a girl I had met literally two weeks before. She's f...

Finite Infinities

Did you know that there are an infinite amount of infinities? Do you not feel like your life is more complete now that you know that very pertinent and relevant piece of information?  In one of our math classes (discreet math), we are learning about the secrets of cardinality and infinity and infinite infinites and finite infinites and all that good stuff that makes one's head spin and long for those days when infinity was something that just existed in a childlike view of the world and was just a very big number that didn't end and wasn't tried to be understood and dealt with.  It happens to be that it's all very cool, and during class, we're all jumping out of our seats in excitement every time we see a new proof or theorem. We are all nerds.  After that intro, let's go on to Shabbos. I was at the Shpiegel's! It had been too long since I'd been there, so I'm glad they hadn't forgotten me.  Faeven, Shana Aleph, and I had a grand time there at th...

Three Children

Let us begin with a joke:  Knock knock Who's there? To To Who? To Whommmmmm Now, I chose to start of the with the nerdiest joke in the entire world because someone mentioned in passing that last week's blog was more "serious" than usual. I put the word in quotation marks because it can't be that my blog was serious; it's simply not in its genes. But this is what I was told, and now my job for this week is to put to rest any doubts that anyone has that my blog is a serious piece of literature.  So, let us commence with the craziness: Shabbos with the Steinsies was an lovely and fun experience, as it always is. The only problem is that so many of the fun things are said and discussed and done on Shabbos, when I can't document them for all posterity. Just know that my seal laugh came out many times Friday night.  We did some Parsha questions, where we learned that the stones around Yaakov's head could have been crembo, and there was something about a pizz...
