CKU

Once upon a time, there lived a Hoodie. It led a peaceful life. It lived in a small room across the hall from a very loud, annoying apartment. But it was happy and carefree, with not a care in the world save for one terrible situation: Cal-Kill-Us. For the point of this story, we will call it CKU.  CKU was the bane of this Hoodie's existence. Anytime it was happy for any reason, CKU came to ruin all that goodness. If Hoodie had had a great day, then CKU would suddenly appear to make that day not great again.  And Hoodie did not live happily ever after.  Wow. That fairy tale warmed my heart. We should add it to Grimm's.  So, if any of you did not understand the moral of the story, then I question your intelligence.  So, let's discuss CKU no further, for it makes me want to kill something...or someone. Like Isaac Newton. I wish that apple had hit him harder, sometimes. But not too hard, because that would be mean and spiteful.  So, school has begun again, and...

Dancing with Shloims

I took my last final. Probably nailed it. Or failed it. Difference of one letter. Take your pick.  So, it's been a week. Much has happened during these past days. I don't even remember all of it. Must be my early OPS showing up.  So, we left off last week with Sarah Leeeeeah coming to the Holy Land to see me. And what a trip it was. She actually stayed in my dorms. Shhh. Don't tell my aim bayit. I'm pretty sure it's illegal. It's a good thing she'll never read this. Otherwise, I might be homeless.  So, Wednesday was busy. I went shopping, went to work (my last day, actually), and studied. 'Twas a lovely day.  Thursday was spent studying, dancing with Shloims, learning, and crying about how much studying I need to do but don't want to do and where are all of my chocolate twizzlers and I think I know this except I don't think I do, and it was very unpleasant for everyone involved.  But, the saving grace was Shabbos. For I couldn't study on Shab...

Mountain Goat

Dearest family and friends,  I became a mountain goat this past week. If you have ever wondered what it would be like to be a mountain goat, then I can let you know. For on Tuesday, I climbed a mountain. Not a little, wannabe mountainish hill. An actual mountain, with jutting out rocks and a barely there trail. It was so hard, yet so rewarding.  It was Adina's idea to be mountain goats, and Aliza and I were dragged along for the ride. Aliza did the entire hike in rainboots. That just proves that anything is possible.  We woke up early in the morning to begin out treacherous journey down to Nachal Boqeq. It was a beautiful day--cool with just the right amount of sun--to die. And die we did. Well, I did. I don't know where the other two got their energy from, scampering up rocks and boulders like they had hooves for feet.  There was lots of crying (from me) and panting and drinking water and reminding Aliza to drink water and almost giving up. But we didn't give u...

Swaga

It was raining here in the Holy Land. Raining and winding. Why can't wind be a verb? I think it should be. It's winding here in the Holy Land. There. If Nick from Frindle can do it, so can I.  So, Wednesday's weather was a good interpretation of my mood: stormy and gloomy and cold. We had a very mean final in computers. It consisted of a grand total of three questions, one of which was impossible, and I don't think I did very well. Oh, well. There are worse things in life. Don't ask me what.  Two Shabboses ago, we had a Shabbos Kallah for Chana, our friend who's getting married this week. There we were, 15 girls in an Airbnb, hoping we would all make it out alive. With 15 girls in close proximity for over 25 hours, who knew what would happen?  But we all did make it out alive, and we had fun while doing it. We played fun games, talked some Torah, had some light conservations (no, that's not a typo), stayed up way later than planned, ate delicious food and d...

Chocolate Twizzlers

Shalom, y'all.  First and foremost, I am feeling fabulous. Baruch Hashem, yesterday I woke up feeling so much better than the past few days  weeks. My throat was a little sore, but nothing that some tea wouldn't fix right up.  That's not to say that I woke up and felt refreshed enough to go to class. No, I definitely skipped the first half-hour of class, but I was feeling fine. So, three cheers for being healthy.  I have finally opened up the chocolate twizzlers that I've been hoarding for many months. Why? Because it's final season. And I do mean season. Not a week, not even two weeks. A full month of finals. 30 days of studying and tests and tears and little-to-no-sleep and many, many, many chocolate twizzlers.  For Shabbos, I went to Ramois which my friend, Chana. She's getting married in two weeks. We have her Shabbos Kallah this week.  Shabbos was very nice. My little cousins liked me somewhat. At least, the littlest one did. The other one just cried ...

Back in Bidud

Hullo, there. 'Tis the sicko in quaranteeeen (that's for you, Abba). As of now, I'm only in bidud because one of my dira mates tested positive. And because I want an excuse to be antisocial. And because I have much homework that needs to be done. So, now is the perfect time to do it.  So, what has been going on my life? Good question, Augustus!  Honestly, not much. Let's see. Shabbos was really cute. I went to Avigial D's house for Shabbos with Avigayil A. Her parents went away for Shabbos, so it was just us three girlsies. We cooked all the food--and by we, I mean Avigial D--for the entire Shabbos. On Friday night, we went to Rabbi Zucker's shul, which had such a beautiful Kabbalas Shabbos. And then we went back to eat some gourmet food. For all those who don't know, Avigial D. is a gourmet chef.  Obviously, we discussed some books, some Torah topics, talked about dating, sang, and just had a really great time. We went to sleep pretty late, but that's t...

#Officially Israeli

Dear friends and family (and maybe the random, unfortunate person who happens to come across this brain cell-killing blog), I am feeling much better, Baruch Hashem.  I got much sleep the past few days, did not go to school or work, and just read and cried and ate soup. So, a very productive week, I have to say.  Let's first talk about last week. Much happened, I'm sure. I just don't remember most of it. OPS, you see.  I do recall going to two beautiful vorts, one on Wednesday night, the other on Thursday. I went with my friend from Milwaukee, DD Goldner. Some of you might know her from her nickname, Devorah. I got to spend some time with my friend and go to simchas. So that was nice.  For Shabbos, I went to Banay Beraq with mikvah-jumper Avigayil, where I got to practice my non-existent Hebrew some more. The kids actually liked me this time. They let me read them some books, and we played together. It was very nice. Loved spending time with my cousins. And I met some...
